Oyster Pond

The island’s second lagoon, Oyster Pond, can be found on the east coast and is at the heart of the most desirable neighborhood on St Martin. Oyster Pond is substantially smaller than Simpson Bay Lagoon but still has just as much charm and character. It is here where you’ll find Captain Oliver’s Marina, which is home for many yacht charter companies. Only a narrow channel divides Oyster Pond from the vast Atlantic Sea. The air here can feel a little fresher and cooler, compared with other coastlines on the island.

The French-Dutch border runs through Oyster Pond, with the majority of the shoreline within the Dutch’s territory. The lagoon is surrounded by luxury homes perched high up in the steep hills which surround the bay. High end resorts and hotels with infinity pools have some of the best views of the sunrise. Oyster Bay Beach Resort is a firm favorite for many who visit here.

There is a real sense of community here. Bars, restaurants and shops are all within close reach of one another and the atmosphere is always buzzing. This area is the perfect base if you wish to avoid some of the more touristic areas, such as Moho Beach and Simpson Bay, yet it is only a short drive to both Philipsburg and Orient Bay if you wish to indulge in some retail therapy or join the nudist bathers. You may not be able to watch the sun set from this side of the island, but you can enjoy unobstructed views out across the sea to neighbouring island St Barths, which is a mere 15 miles away.
