Terres Basses

Situated on the most western point of Saint Martin, Terres Basses, or the French Lowlands, is a large expanse with mainly million-dollar estates built on the surrounding rolling hills. Terres Basses is made up of various different beaches; Baie Longue, Baie aux Prumes and Baie Rouge. None of these beaches are ever busy, making them the prefect escape for couples or those wishing to spend the day with little interruptions. There are few facilities at any of the beaches so it would be wise to pack yourself a few refreshments for your convenience and even perhaps an umbrella for shade.

Baie aux Prumes, or Plum Bay, is one of the most intimate and peaceful beaches on Saint Martin. During the week the beach is quiet with very few visitors. This part of the island is also a great romantic sunset spot with unobscured views out to the Caribbean Sea and beyond.

The island’s five star flagship resort La Samanna, can be found at the eastern end of Long Bay, or Baie Longue. This exclusive resort has hosted many Hollywood celebrities and provides the perfect escape for those wishing for a little more luxury. The beach itself is one of the longest and prettiest on the island. With no watersports or street vendors in sight, Long Bay is quite an escape compared with other areas.

The majority of Terres Basses is made up of generous lots with amazing properties perched on the dramatic cliff edges, providing stunning views of the beach or the lagoon, or both if you’re lucky. Many of these properties are rented out on a weekly basis to holiday makers.
