Pic Paradis St Martin (Paradise Peak)

Rising from the centre of the island at a height of 1,391 feet (424 metres) stands Pic Paradis St Martin, the highest point on the whole island. Pic Paradis St Martin, or Paradise Peak as it is also referred to as, can be found close to the village Colombier, in the centre of the island on the French side.

It is possible to reach the peak via a road, which doubles as a hiking trail. As you ascend Pic Paradis St Martin you will pass Loterie Farm, a private nature reserve and sanctuary. Here you can enjoy fantastic food and drink as you take in the lush green surroundings, or if you are feeling adventurous, try out the big attraction, Flyzone, before heading further up the mountain.

St Martin / St Maarten is generally a dry destination, except for Pic Paradise. This mountainous region receives a lot more rain than down on the lowlands. As you climb towards the peak you will notice that the vegetation gets thicker and the air becomes a little cooler. You will pass various beautiful homes on the way – many find it a preferred area to live because of the climate.

At the top of Pic Paradis St Martin you will be rewarded with some stunning views of Orient Bay, Orleans, Philipsburgh, Marigot and Simpson Bay Lagoon. There are two observation decks at the peak. Both decks provide spectacular views of the scenery and the tropical forest below.

If you are feeling adventurous, there are a number of walking trails leading from Pic Paradis to Orient Bay, Orleans and over to parts of Dutch St Maarten. The trails take you along the mountain ridges, through the dense jungle and back down to sea level. St Martin / St Maarten tourist office can provide trail maps if you are wishing to explore these trails beyond Pic Paradis.
