Most people will say that Kim Sha Beach St Maarten is a part of Simpson Bay Beach. But actually it is located behind the bridge and outside the lagoon, which makes it a perfect area for excursions and dive boats to start their trips. The beach is short, but wide and flat, and runs from the Atrium Beach Resort to the Royal Palm Beach Club. The name Kim Sha was actually the name of a Chinese restaurant that was there in the old days.

The eastern end of the beach has a good little bar where you can watch a good sunset view while sipping a “sundowner”. Another, recently opened bar is the Buccaneer Bar, which is rapidly becoming a popular meeting spot and with a great view of the whole beach. Celebrate the mystery of the “Fireballs” as they are lit up on Friday and Sunday evenings, just as the sun goes down and the moon begins to rise. Don’t miss out on the “Crab Races”! The beach gets crowded by sunsets; it’s the perfect place for Happy Hour or an open air massage. You can get drinks, chairs and umbrellas from the commercial establishments on Kim Sha Beach St Maarten.

In the centre of the beach you can find a certified PADI dive centre and dive shop. If you are up for parasailing they will be able to make your day! The beach is protected by a small reef, providing swimmers and boats with a very calm surf, making it ideal for families and children. Many yachts and boats use the bay as an anchorage. Occasional concerts and beach parties are held on this beach, such as the yearly final Heineken Regatta concert. It is the beach for all sorts of live entertainment and beach sporting events.
