Baie Nettle Beach St Martin

Baie Nettle Beach St Martin, in English called Nettle Bay, is a long stretch of sand that lies just 5 minutes from the town of Marigot, the capital of the French side of St. Martin/St. Maarten. The gentle breeze of the trade winds make this rarely frequented beach a pleasant place to visit. It is located between the Simpson Bay lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, halfway between the upscale prestigious Terres Basses and the town of Marigot. Shaded by palm trees, the lagoon side beaches benefit from the amenities of the hotels. The Caribbean side has a lot of rocks and stones and is not really ideal for swimming. But due to the numerous beach bars and restaurants it is a must for fine dining, partying or just relaxing on the beautiful beach.

Baie Nettle Beach St Martin includes a few shops, a bakery, a grocery store and car rentals along the Caribbean side and lagoon side. It also has some water sports activities to offer such as Jet ski rentals and boat rentals for day excursions and cruising. The construction of “La Belle Creole resort”, some 30 years ago, kicked of the development of the area. Today, after the passage of Hurricane Louise, the hotel has closed down but Baie Nettle has meanwhile turned into a pretty active and busy area.

There is a splendid view from the Caribbean side from where you can admire Marigot Bay, Marigot harbour to the North, Saint Martin’s mountains and the neighbouring island of Anguilla. The entrance of Baie Nettle Beach St Martin is a bit hidden and hard to find. The best is to park at the parking of beach restaurants and bars and access the beach. The lagoon side however is only accessible through the numerous private condos resorts and residencies. Driving from one side to the other side of the island a pit stop at Baie Nettle Beach St Martin is highly recommended.
