Les Mardis de Grand Case
Les Mardis de Grand Case takes place every year in the village of Grand Case. The event is organised for the restaurants, Lolo’s, hotels, retailers and Grand Case lovers. Les Mardis de Grand Case always starts on the second Tuesday of January and is held every Tuesday for 12 weeks. The main road of Grand Case becomes pedestrian between 6 pm and 10 pm so that a large craft market can be set up on each side of the street. Music bands, dancers, acrobats, carnival parades and many other surprises invade the village. Alongside the famous local painters, round 60 crafts and arts stalls are set up on each side of the Boulevard.
The shops, boutiques and art galleries are open as well…and keep in mind there are many restaurants located in this area that provide gourmet meals with great views of the seaside. You can also meet with the locals selling their cakes and homemade rums or coconut sorbets which they alone hold the secret. The Boulevard de Grand Case is prohibited to cars during the event. Around 7 pm, during 2 hours, Carnival dancers, street musicians and 25 street performers parade up and down the street.
Culinary Capital
During the time you visit you will discover why Grand Case is called the “Culinary Capital” of the Caribbean. Over forty restaurants are to be found in Grand Case, not forgetting the local “Lolo’s”. These traditional local restaurants serve delicious barbecues prepared in front of you.
Les Mardis de Grand Case is an event not to miss while vacationing on Saint Martin/Sint Maarten. This unique event allows all the people on the Island to come together. It is melting pot of tourist, locals, adults and children sharing the rhythm and sounds of the local bands. If you plan to go, we suggest you to get there early as the village becomes very full during the evening.

Grand Case is just beautiful. Last Sunday we took the car that we rented from Value Car Rental ( http://www.valuecarrental.com ) out for a drive and drove all the way up to Grand Case to have dinner at one of the lolos. It was truly fantastic. The atmosphere, the people, the food. Grand Case really is a special place. Once in a while we just have to go there whenever we are on the island. The number of restaurants to choose from is just staggering and you can hardly go wrong selecting a restaurant. Plus there is something for everybody, as people intend to have different tastes for what they eat. Thanks for this awesome blog. I have bookmarked it in my list of favorite websites.
