Flyboarding in St Martin

Flyboarding in St Martin is maybe today the coolest water sport activity around. Zigzagging up to 2 to 3 meters above the sea surface, overlooking Orient Bay Beach, learning how to do 360’s and attempting Dolphin moves is just amazing. Strapped into boots feeling like you are on a snowboard, I was told to keep my legs locked and straight. Then the Jet ski propelled me out of the water into the sky, “I can fly”. Flyboarding is like wakeboarding, part jet skiing and part carnival ride all rolled into one. From the first time you get lifted up in the air you feel a sense of exhilaration like no other. To stay steady on a flyboard it is all in the feet, toes and heels, you can direct yourself by looking one way or the other putting your weight on the foot of the direction you want to go in. And of course it all comes down to balance.

Being up in the air is awesome, the sense of power being able to fly! But always keep in mind, whenever you try a new sport or activity, doing it safely should be the number one concern for everyone involved. The right safety equipment and preparation are paramount. All flyboarding instructors take your safety and theirs very seriously. The appropriate age for flyboarding in St Martin has been adjusted over the five years since the initial release in 2011. Riders are required to be a minimum of 16 years of age and anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present as well.  You would probably say you should be any weight you want to be, however, due to the design of the flyboard and the hydraulic propulsion lifting you out of the water, the weight limit has been set to 300 pounds.

After about 30 minutes I could not feel my legs anymore and called it quits! The best thing is that you do not have to swim back ashore. All you have to do is lie face down, head out of the water and let the Jet ski propel you back to the platform. I certainly recommend this cool activity of flyboarding in St Martin while vacationing on the beautiful island of St. Martin/St. Maarten.
